Meet Ruby, my home on wheels until further notice!

I got a little taste of the road trip life when I spent a month on the go with my closest girlfriends and ever since I’ve been dying to do it again. Now it’s finally going to happen – indefinitely. I will be working on the go as I road trip the U.S. and explore as much as I can. The reason this “trip” has no foreseeable end date is because of work. My job has been remote since March 2020 and we do not anticipate going back into the office anytime soon. Because of that, I’m going to make the most of this situation and just stay out traveling around the States for as long as I want to.

I started looking for a van as soon as I knew I could make this happen for real. It took awhile, but I finally found the perfect one. What your looking at in the picture above is a 1995 Dodge Ram Van in amazing condition. I’ve been making upgrades and modifications since I got her about a month ago, and she is almost ready to hit the road. Here are some before shots of the interior. Prepare yourself thought – my girl Ruby is a full on ‘70s retro gal. You’ve been warned. 

You’re speechless. I know. The red. The velour. Your eyes. Forever burned in your mind. She is quite the sight. I plan on creating another post with some after photos and a full tour when she’s done. So far I’ve got clothing storage, the bed, cooler, cooking and lighting system nailed down. In the works are the blueprints for a desk to work at with additional storage for cookware beneath it and a shelf above the bed. We are so close to adding the final touches!

As for the plan, there is no plan. I have a general route in mind for how this is going to go big picture, but every little detail? Nope. I’m just going to make it up as I go for the most part. I know I want to hit as many states as I can and visit national and state parks in each one. This trip is probably going to revolve around where I want to go hiking next. But other than that it’s really about the experience as a whole – exploring new places, climbing mountains, camping, trying new things and just living an adventure.
